On August 12, 2020, we opened the doors to Bromley East and welcomed students back after a spring of remote learning. For the past three months, the BECS staff has worked extremely hard to keep students in school five days a week, employing and enforcing safety protocols and layers of protection to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. We have been largely successful in preventing the transmission of COVID-19 at school. Parents and families have been very accommodating and understanding as we have flexed in and out of different cohort/class quarantines. We sincerely thank you for your partnership during these difficult times.
During the last few weeks, there has been a marked increase in positive COVID-19 cases in our community. Community transmission and exposure to COVID-19, along with the more restrictive quarantine requirements and the necessity of contact tracing, have made it extremely difficult for the BECS staff to navigate and mitigate these impacts on our school. In addition, we are anticipating a more restrictive public health order will be issued this week that may place further stress on our school.
As a result of the aforementioned, we have decided to transition to remote learning following Thanksgiving break for the following time periods:
November 30-December 18
*There will be no school for students on January 4 as this will be a staff professional development day.
We plan to return to in-person learning on Monday, January 11, 2021. During this remote learning period, there will be no before and after school daycare provided at Innovations.
This week, school staff will be talking with students about this transition and preparing them for remote learning. We encourage you to talk with your students about the transition given students may have strong feelings and emotions about moving to the remote platform. Teachers will communicate further instructions and information regarding the transition to remote learning prior to classes resuming on November 30.
We are hopeful that we can return to in-person learning on January 11, 2021. We ask that you join us in adhering to the safety protocols during the next several weeks that will allow our community to fend off more widespread transmission of COVID-19 and return to some semblance of normalcy in 2021.
We cannot thank you enough for your support of Bromley East Charter School during the most difficult of times. We sincerely appreciate the support of families and the community as we have navigated the effects of the pandemic. We hope BECS students, families, and staff have a safe and healthy holiday season.
