Special Education (LEAP)

Disabilities don’t define a child—they simply call for a special approach to unlock their full potential.

We support students with disabilities through individualized attention and compassionate care, and collaboration is at the heart of our approach. Through developing strong partnerships among our special education staff, classroom teachers, and families, we ensure that students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) receive the support they need to achieve academic progress and social-emotional growth.

Program Overview

The BECS Special Education Department serves students in Kindergarten through 8th grade with mild to moderate disabilities, providing individualized support through a multidisciplinary approach.

Each student’s educational goals are addressed through research-based instructional and behavioral strategies, modern best practices, and, when appropriate, the integration of technology.

Our team of Special Education Teachers, Case Managers, Specialists, and Paraprofessionals works collaboratively with classroom teachers and families to ensure every student has the resources and accommodations they need to access the general curriculum and reach their full potential.

Key aspects of our program include:

  • Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to the specific needs of each student, developed and monitored through collaboration between educators, specialists, and families.

  • Regular communication and meetings with classroom teachers to align IEP goals with effective instructional strategies.

  • A focus on academic success and social-emotional growth, empowering students to set personal goals, track progress, and celebrate achievements.

  • A commitment to fostering leadership and personal accountability through the Leader in Me model, helping students recognize their strengths and areas for growth.

  • Potential support for students not eligible for SPED services through accommodations plans under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, ensuring equitable access to education (see below for more info)

With the right support, every child can feel confident, capable, and ready to embrace their fullest potential at Bromley East.
