Disabilities don’t define a child—they simply call for a special approach to unlock their full potential.

We support students with disabilities through individualized attention and compassionate care, and collaboration is at the heart of our approach. Through developing strong partnerships among our special education staff, classroom teachers, and families, we ensure that students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) receive the support they need to achieve academic progress and social-emotional growth.

Key aspects of our program include:

• Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to the specific needs of each student, developed and monitored through collaboration between educators, specialists, and families.
   
• Regular communication and meetings with classroom teachers to align IEP goals with effective instructional strategies.
   
• A focus on academic success and social-emotional growth, empowering students to set personal goals, track progress, and celebrate achievements.
   
• A commitment to fostering leadership and personal accountability through the Leader in Me model, helping students recognize their strengths and areas for growth.
   
• Potential support for students not eligible for SPED services through accommodations plans under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, ensuring equitable access to education (see below for more info)

At Bromley East, gifted and talented learners will have the opportunity to explore their passions while developing their knowledge within a traditional classroom environment. 

Through personalized support and enrichment opportunities, our program nurtures academic excellence, creativity, and meaningful social connections.

To ensure gifted students are both challenged and supported:

• Differentiated instruction (customized to individual needs) encourages deeper exploration of interests and helps students attain a higher level of understanding.
   
• Cluster grouping places groups of gifted students with peers of similar abilities in elementary and middle school LEAD and Language Arts classes, encouraging collaboration and intellectual growth.
   
• Advanced math opportunities allow middle school students to complete 6th through 9th-grade standards by the end of 8th grade, preparing them for success in high school and beyond.
   
• Affective goals in ALPs help students build self-awareness, manage challenges, and develop resilience, ensuring their emotional growth aligns with their academic success.
   
• Enrichment activities, such as GT retreats, field trips, performing arts, clubs, and sports, provide opportunities for creative expression, leadership development, and meaningful relationships.

By combining personalized plans, supportive peer connections, and enrichment opportunities, our program ensures gifted learners thrive both in the classroom and in their broader learning community.

Our CLDE Program is dedicated to empowering students whose home language is not English by developing their academic English skills while celebrating and valuing their cultural identities.

Through customized language instruction and culturally responsive teaching, Bromley East’s CLDE program helps students build confidence and fully participate in classroom and extracurricular activities. The cultural richness our English Learners bring to Bromley East is celebrated as an essential part of our community!

To create an inclusive and supportive learning environment, our approach includes:

• Culturally responsive teaching that respects and celebrates each student’s cultural background while encouraging a positive self-image in a supportive space that empowers and includes everyone.
   
• Tier 1 scaffolds, such as visual aids, vocabulary support, peer interactions, and differentiated instruction, helping students access grade-level content and actively engage in learning.
   
• Strong partnerships with families through regular communication and events, creating a collaborative, inclusive school environment where every family feels valued and supported.
   
• Collaboration with classroom teachers to integrate strategies that meet the unique needs of each English Learner and ensure seamless support.

Our ultimate goal is for every student to feel confident, included, and empowered to succeed in both academic and social settings.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, 2004) defines a child with a disability as a child who has a qualifying disability and by reason thereof is in need of special education and related services.

In other words, under the IDEA it is not enough to simply have a qualifying disability. The disability must cause the child to need special education and related services in order to access the general curriculum, which is the same curriculum taught to all children.

Students with disabilities who are not eligible for services through the SPED program, may be eligible for an accommodations plan under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Requesting Student Records or Former Plan 

Bromley East Charter School (BECS) partners with 27J Schools, our authorizing district, to process requests for student records, including Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
